Product Review: Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts
written by runnergirl training
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts are hemp seeds from the hemp plant.
They are high in protein, fat & have a mild nutty taste. Their crunchy
texture makes them the perfect addition to top salads, shakes/smoothies, cereal
and many other dishes.
Hemp hearts are 30% fat and are high in omega-6 & omega-3.
They are packed with 25% protein. That is a higher amount of protein compared
to other similar food varieties, such as chia seeds. Hemp hearts can be eaten
raw or cooked. They are also high in both insoluble and soluble fiber.
They also have a high vitamin & mineral content that
includes vitamin E, calcium, zinc, iron & potassium. Another nutritional
and health benefit is that they contain an amino acids called arginine. That
may help reduce heart disease. Hemp hearts also contain gamma-linolenic acid
which can help reduce inflammation & heart disease. The vitamin E content can
help soften skin and hair.
Hemp hearts are a complete protein, meaning they contain all of
the essential amino acids. Essential amino acids are not produced by the body
and need to be consumed in food. Often it is difficult to find woods that contain all of the essential amino acids together. This is a naturally occurring source of complete protein without being modified in a food lab. What better way for your body to be nourished!
A wonderful aspect about Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts is that the protein is plant-based and perfect for diets such as vegetarian, vegan, soy-free and low FODMAP. As a person on those diets due to IBS I know how challenging it can be to consume adequate protein. I love that Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts meets my protein needs.

I enjoy eating my Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts blended in my
protein shakes, sprinkled on salads & mixed into almond butter. I really
like the subtle taste & texture. It's nice to have a food that has quality
nutrition & covers a lot of bases with the vitamins, minerals &
protein. I like that is blends easily into the protein drink. On salads, it adds a light texture without being too crunchy or taking away from the salad's flavor. In fact, I found it to really enrich the flavor or anything combined to the hemp hearts.
Pros:
High fiber
High protein
High omega-6 & omega-3
Blends well

Manitoba Harvest provided me with a bag of Hemp Hearts to honestly review. All opinions are mine from personally using the product.

Product Review: Spiru-Tein & PB2 & Super Seed
written by runnergirl training
What is your go-to protein shake? I recently decided to
switch up mine and set out to find one that met my requirements. It must be
vegan, easily digestable, not taste like grit or powder when mixing by hand or
in a blender, and help with weight loss.
I like to use almond or coconut milk, Spiru-Tein protein
powder, Bell Plantation’s PB2 powdered peanut butter and Garden Of Life Super
Seed.
Nature’s Plus Spiru-Tein is my current favorite protein
powder. It is available in an array of products including whey protein or soy-free/xylitol.
I find the regular Spiru-Tein to be my favorite. They have several flavors and
offer packets to large containers to fit your needs. It also helps with weight loss by using spirulina.
Bell Plantation’s PB2 powdered peanut butter is a great way
to add in some flavor and protein with adding a lot of fat or calories as with
traditional peanut butter spread. I have found it to be easily digestible and
not cause any stomach problems. Traditional peanut butter is difficult for me
to digest at times.
Garden Of Life Super Seed is a great way to add in fiber and
Omega-3 fatty acids. It is easily digestible too and has a pleasant light cinnamon
aroma.
My guilty pleasure is to add in vegan vanilla animal cookies
to work as a thickener. The consistency reminds me of an old school soda
fountain thick milk shake. This is my favorite protein shake for pre/post
workout or a quick meal. What are your favorite protein shake recipes?
All statements are my own opinions and I received no compensation for mentioning these brands.
Product Review: EAS Soy Protein Powder
written by runnergirl training
EAS Sports Nutrition supplied me with a variety of their soy protein powder to try out and review.
I tried the vanilla EAS soy protein powder. It is a nutritionally balanced and delicious supplement!
It has 20 grams of soy protein. The nutritional information is here.
I liked that it is vegetarian friendly and works well if you are lactose intolerant.
The powder is smooth to drink and is not chalky. It has a smooth texture and tastes great!
I have used many different brands of protein powder over the years. This is a wonderful product and I highly recommend it!
